George is survived by three sisters, Mary Noplos and Effie Watters, both of Scottsdale, AZ, and Georgia Ciavarella of Buffalo Grove, IL, and by 21 nieces and nephews and 45 grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Deoneseus (Dan) and Panagota (Pota) Georgacakis, and by four sisters, Harriet Contos, Olivia (Lee) Wallace, Happy Georgacakis and Clara Georgacakis.
George graduated from elementary and high schools in Cicero, IL. He obtained an AA degree from Morton Junior College in Cicero, IL in 1956. He moved to Phoenix with his parents in 1956 and on to Tucson for further college. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering degree in 1958 from the University of Arizona. George proudly served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps at Fort Detrick, MD from 1958 to 1960. He returned to the U of A to obtain an MBA degree in 1970.
He was first employed as an engineer by Goodyear in Arizona. He moved back to Chicago in the early 1970s and was an engineer for Singer, for Siebe Controls and for Eaton. He was awarded 5 patents. He retired and returned to Arizona in 1999, where he enjoyed managing his rental properties and vacationing in Las Vegas.
George was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Phoenix. He was a member of the Sons of Pericles and then AHEPA for 56 years.
Trisagion is scheduled from 5 to 8 pm including a 7 pm service on Monday, June 20 at A.L. Moore - Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, AZ. His funeral will be held at 9 am on Tuesday, June 21 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1973 E. Maryland Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. George will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in North Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, George’s family requests that donations in his name be made to American Cancer Society or to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
