Geri was born on January 6, 1929 in Pueblo, Colorado to George and Louise Bonfiglio. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1947. She married Russell Eugene Sump on June 6, 1953, who preceded her in death in 2016. She had three children and eventually moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1964.
One of Geri's many interests included singing and especially singing in her church choir. Her proudest moment was having the opportunity to sing in the choir when Pope John Paul II visited Phoenix in September 1987. She also enjoyed reading, looking for and studying recipes, taking family photos, traveling and also excelled at cooking. She was not only an inventive cook, but her baking skills were even more amazing. She could truly do it all and enjoyed trying new things throughout her life all the while taking care of her family.
Geri's early career in the grocery business began as a teenager at her father's grocery store. After her children were grown, she decided to get licensed to begin a manicuring career. Her life was forever changed when she fell in love with the beautiful Irish crystal she was introduced to in 1983, and so she moved to Phoenix, AZ with her husband to open her own Irish Crystal business. There she met many life-long friends who enjoyed crystal as much as she did. She later returned to Los Angeles and changed careers again and worked for LAUSD as an administrative assistant at the high school level. She loved the challenge of working with teenagers. Geri once again returned to Phoenix in 1998 where she took on her final calling doctors to enlist them to take part in medical trails. She loved talking with people so this job was particularly enjoyable!
Geri is survived by her daughter, Karen Shumar and husband, Jeff; her daughter Susan Decker and her husband, Paul and her granddaughter, Katie; son Russell and his wife Alda.
She will always be remembered for her fun, adventurous spirit, her loving and generous heart, and her willingness to try new things. All those that knew her loved her. Geri's children will forever hold her in their hearts and are already missing her.
