Harry David “Bud” Gilbert III, was born on April 29, 1934 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Martha Susanna and Harry David “Bud” Gilbert, Jr. He moved to Arizona with his wife Della and four children in 1958, as he loved the warmer climate after coming for a visit. He recounted often his memory about surviving the day it reached 122 degrees in Phoenix back in 1990.
He went to be home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on August 12, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of forty-two years, Joy Susanna Gilbert, “The Joy of His Life,” brother Charles Homer Gilbert, and grandson, Keith Allen Wussow II. He is survived by his loving wife, Ota Mae Gilbert of seven years. Also surviving are his “Eight is Enough” (as he liked to call them) children, H. David Gilbert IV (Brenda), Rebecca Medina, Donald Gilbert, Susanna Wussow, Arthur Gilbert (Thresa), Judith Scott (Winfield), Pamela Manion (Martin), and Martha Zeller (Scott). Twenty-one grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive their grandfather. In addition, he has one sister, Martha Jane “Marcie” Ramsey also surviving.
Bud was a retired printer and worked for the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette for almost 35 years. He worked the graveyard shift and loved to come home to eat ice cream while everyone else was waking up to eat breakfast. He continued to enjoy meeting with the Phoenix Newspapers Inc. Retirees Club regularly. Bud loved to travel and would often drive cross country visiting a variety of different places. He was a member of Paradise Church, now known as Desert City Church while in Phoenix, and attended Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Rimrock near his Lake Montezuma home while he lived there from 2003 to 2012. He lived his life faithfully serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at Desert City Church, 4242 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix, and interment at 1:30 pm at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W Beardsley Rd., Phoenix. The family asks that Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made on Bud’s behalf to Desert City Church.
