Hez was a close and important friend ever since a pivotal time at MSU, and Hez will forever remain close to my heart.  It is difficult to conceive that such a powerful sparkling, bright  force of light and energy can be dimmed into shadow.  Hez, with her humor, compassion, intelligence, diligence, and kindness, who genuinely cared for and respected everyone, and who was able to achieve any goal that she set her mind to with precision, perfection, and  success.  I refuse to let Hez’s light dim because memories of her spirit will continue to shine brightly in my heart.  I will miss you, my friend. 

To Hez’s family, I am sending you love and support during this difficult time.  I share your grief and offer you my deepest sympathy.  I wish I could be with you today to pay my final respects to Hez.

This is hard to write, my heart aches. Hez left an indelible mark on the world and on me. I'll always think of Hez when I see a "streetlight moon". What a beautiful force she was! My condolences to her family, Charlotte, Half Looking, friends and to all whose heart she touched.

This was in Roanoke Virginia in fall 2009. Hez was always up for an adventure! Truly one of the most kind and gentle souls on the planet.

Hez drastically changed the trajectory of my career. Of the countless things she taught me in nursing, the most impactful was how to believe in myself. Hez pushed me in all the right ways and made me believe in my crazy dreams. I’m heart broken she isn’t around to continue the journey with me, but I will keep doing it for her. It was such a privilege to be her student, colleague, and especially her friend. My world was better when she was in it, I am forever grateful for the time we had and the impact she made.
