Helen Mae Dirks went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb.14, 2015 at 6:21 PM at Ventana Winds Assisted Living, in Youngtown. She was 87.
Mom was born Dec. 16, 1927 in Chandler, OK, the fourth eldest of six children to Hiram and Golda Lancaster. The family moved to California in the late '30s and resided in Planada, Ca. Mom met her future husband Dillard Dirks of Winton, Ca in the early days of WWll, and they married July 22, 1945. Mom looked as beautiful as the most glamorous Hollywood movie star and dapper Dad always wore a suit and tie. They were quite the couple.
A few years later Mom and Dad moved to Stockton, Ca for several years before Dad's job took them to San Mateo and later Redwood City, Ca where they resided for 20 years. On Sept 11, 1955, Helen was baptized and joined Calvary Baptist Church where she was very active. Mom worked for many years as a clerk at Atherton Rexall Drug Store in Menlo Park, Ca. After retirement Mom and Dad moved to Glendale, AZ where they resided for over 37 years.
In the past few years, Mom battled failing health. A short time ago, she was moved into memory care. Helen was a longtime member of West Valley Baptist Church and loved the preaching of the Word of God.
Helen was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Harvey Lancaster and Calvin Lancaster, and sister Naomi Hooker.
She is survived by her faithful husband of 69 years, Dillard Dirks of
Youngtown, brother Henry Lancaster of Oakland, CA., sister Patricia Lancaster of Sun City. Sons Garland and Anne Dirks of Orofino, ID and Alan and Carole Dirks of Surprise. Grandchildren Brian, Michelle, and Jamie Dirks. Tanya and Randy Watson, Tracee and Tom DiCamillo, Troy Dirks, and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 a 11:00 am at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley with private burial to follow. A brief viewing will begin at 10:15. Pastor Todd Krombein will be officiating.
