Celebrating the Life of a Remarkable Man
Henry “Cody” Gongora passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving family. To all who knew him, Henry was the strongest, bravest, smartest, most loving, caring, funniest, and coolest man they had ever met, a true original whose presence filled every room.
Born and raised in Glendale, Arizona, Henry built lifelong friendships and deep community roots. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his resilience, strength, and unwavering sense of duty, qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
Henry was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather and great grandfather. Family meant everything to him, and he was at his happiest when surrounded by those he loved. A simple and humble man, he found joy in the everyday moments, tending to his many plants, keeping his yard just right, and sharing laughter and jokes with everyone around him. He was known for his big personality, love of music, passion for classic cars, and for always showing up for his family and friends without hesitation. He also loved sports and was fiercely loyal to his teams, the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Dallas Cowboys, supporting them with the same passion and faithfulness he showed in every part of his life.
He always stayed true to himself, never without his shades, always in his Levi’s, carrying his unmistakable style and confidence wherever he went. He also took pride in the little details, with his Levi’s always sharply creased and his shoes always spotless. Whether he was spontaneously singing and dancing, offering the best advice, or greeting everyone with equal respect and kindness, Henry never treated anyone differently.
Family
He is survived by his loving wife Gina Gongora, his daughters Regina Gongora, Elena Aranda (Peter), his sons Ernest Gongora, and Enrique Gongora, his ten grandchildren, Corina, Jessica, Stephanie, Manuel, Damian, Elijah, Esmia, Annalise, Chloe, Leah and his eight great grandchildren, Josiah, John Jr, Olivia, Anahi, Mateo, Sebastian, Kamila and Manuel Jr.
He is also survived by his seven siblings, Sonny Gongora, Manuel Gongora, Ernie Gongora, Frances Gonzalez, Ray Luevano, Nora Stevenson and Irene Gomez, along with many extended family members, including nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Legacy
Henry’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
