Ian Christopher Adkinson was born on October 10, 1972 in Hill City, South Dakota and passed away on September 11, 2023. He lived in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Nana Adkinson and children Hannah Skye Adkinson (24), Zachary James Adkinson (21), Mikayla Rain Adkinson (18), Keep Prakopchaem (21), Mui Prakopchaem (11), and Nina Prakopchaem (6). He is survived by his mother Kathleen Adkinson, his sisters Leigh Massey, Denise Torres, and Jessie Adkinson, his brother Matthew Adkinson, his aunt Cindy Grow, his brother-in-law Brandon Massey, and his step-mother Tina Adkinson. He has been welcomed to heaven by his nephew Sebastian Torres, his father Edward Adkinson, and his grandmother, Irene Grow.
We must not only remember Ian in death, but in all of the meaningful ways he loved and cared for each of us in life. Early on, as a little boy raised by women, he learned to be patient and loving, even when he was brought along on long shopping outings with his mom and his sisters.
He graduated from Blue Ridge High School and soon after had three beautiful children with his first wife Jennifer Adkinson. After receiving his contractor’s license, he started his own electrical business “Lighting up the Dark”. He lived and worked in the White Mountains and attended and served at Blue Ridge Church. He moved to Phoenix in his late thirties and finished a degree in Respiratory Therapy. He put that degree to use and began his work at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Because of his great love for children, he not only cared for them as part of his job, but served in ministry to help and care for homeless people and refugees. It was his hope and mission to share Jesus’ love with those in need. His role in ministry included bussing hundreds of refugee children to church on Sundays and then on Friday nights, he helped to distribute food and clothing to the homeless and those in need in downtown Phoenix. Ian later married Nana Prakopchaem and welcomed three daughters as a beautiful addition to his family.
At the age of 36, Ian was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome. Since then, he continued to be the best father, a dedicated employee, and a tireless servant to so many. He battled his illness for many years but continued his fight to have as much time as possible with his wife, his children, and the rest of his family. Ian lost his battle with his illness at the age of 50, but he never grew tired of doing good and sharing God’s love with his family, his friends, and those in need. He will be missed and his example to us all, never forgotten.
None of us can deny the pain that we carry over the loss of our dear one, Ian Christopher Adkinson. He was a beloved father, brother, son, husband, uncle, nephew and friend. As family and friends, we would like everyone to remember Ian as a true blessing and that his life serve as a lesson to us all. He impacted so many people with his love, patience, and kindness beyond measure. His love for his family truly is what kept him fighting for so long. We want to treasure the life Ian shared with us over the pain that his death has brought us. Rest in eternal peace in heaven Ian. You will live on forever in our hearts until we see you again.
