Ida Nieto Cota

Ida was born at home in Phoenix, Arizona on October 31, 1927 to Matias and Gabriella Dimas Nieto. She was the first born of 13 and was the matriarch of the Nieto family. She was a force of nature and exceptionally intelligent. She was a successful business woman with boundless energy. Strong, fearless and not afraid to take risks, she never took no for an answer. She married Henry Cota in 1948 and they were married for 45 years until his death in 1993. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner who enjoyed defending her views in heated discussions. She was also bluntly honest with her opinions and advice but it always came from a place of love. She was a role model to generations of friends and family and her memory will live on through them. Her Catholic faith and devotion to our Blessed Mother was a big part of her life.

Ida is survived by her children, Ernest Cota, Henry Cota Jr, Margie Cota, Marta Tweden (Clark), Becky DeLeon, Alberta Tellez, Margaret Arce (Larry), Jason Lewis and nephew Alfred Ramirez, (Gracie). 26 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Brother, David Nieto, (Paula). Sister, Frances Russell, (Steve) and hundreds of extended family. Ida Cota was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Henry S Cota and daughter, Teresa Turturice. Her parents; Matias and Gabriella Nieto. Sisters; Sofie Ramirez, Dora Gutierrez, Emma De La Cruz, Anna Tarazon-Hernandez and baby sister Yolanda Fritsch. Brothers; Richard Nieto, Ray Nieto, Benny Nieto, Sammy Nieto and Joe Nieto.

The family wishes to thank the team from Hospice of the Valley who were always there for Ida and her family. Gratitude to Ryan's House, who provided Ida with her final peaceful end of life care.

A visitation for Ida will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Rosary scheduled for 6 pm at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel, 710 West Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013. A funeral mass will occur Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85017. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 28, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008. A catered reception will occur Friday, July 28, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral's social hall, 6351 N 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85017.
