

Irene Ruth Wernecke was born on March 17, 1925, St. Patrick’s Day, in Canton Ohio to James and Hilda Hoffman. Irene is survived by her sisters Marian (Robert dec'd) Margie (Roger) and her brother David (Carol). She is also survived by two sons Bruce (Melanie) and Dale (Barbara), grandsons Chase, Chad (Patricia), Marc (Brittany), and Scott (Ashleigh) great grandsons Sullivan, Cade, Nolan, along with many nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, Irene held many secretarial jobs. First, at Hercules Motor Company, next working for Ford Motors, then as a private secretary for Arthur Gibbs a wealthy millionaire in Canton Ohio. Irene and Richard moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1979 where she held her last secretarial job at Goodyear Aerospace, later retiring in 1991. Her remaining years were spent with her husband Richard by her side; spending many days and nights playing the organ, taking the grandkids to the pool and hosting get-togethers with the family. She was an exceptional hostess and an amazing seamstress, fixing a certain grandkid’s pants on numerous occasions. Her talents were endless from gardening to painting\pottery to culinary expertise. She was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. On Wednesday, April 29th 2020, Irene passed away at Sun Valley Lodge, two weeks exactly after her husband Richard. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 7th, 2020 at West Resthaven Park Cemetery and Mortuary at 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ 85301 at 10:30 am. After the memorial service, Irene and Richard will be placed together where they can spend eternity side by side keeping one another company.
