Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, Irene attended Phoenix Union High School, then earned a degree in education at Arizona State University. After briefly teaching in Los Angeles, she returned to run the family grocery store Sam Kee in South Central Phoenix until its closing in 2014.
She loved to watch the stock market on her iPad, research investment and healthcare tips on YouTube, and receive visits from her brothers, as well as many of her nephews and nieces. She joins her parents Ben and Lily Yee and her siblings Henry, Mary May, Frances, Rose, and Josephine in the next life and is survived by her sister Jean in San Francisco, Phoenix-based brothers Willie (Yen) and Dixon (Terry), sister-in-law Wong Shook Lin, and an expansive family tree that includes 18 nephews and nieces, 24 grand-nephews and nieces, and 19 great grand-nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for the care and compassion they provided Irene in her final days. Family and friends are invited to attend Irene’s memorial on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 10:30-11:30 AM at Greenwood Memorial. Internment immediately to follow.
