Jack Eugene Gothard Jr.

He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on December 5, 1948. Jack graduated from Alhambra High School and shortly after joined the military serving as a Marine. Jack eventually began to work as a mechanic for the Arizona State Land Department Forestry Division for over 30 years. This provided him the unique opportunity to also work as a wildland firefighter where he made his way up from a Hot Shot to the Incident Management Team. After retiring from the state, Jack went on to work for his church doing facility maintenance before ultimately retiring in 2020.

He was hardworking and knowledgeable, a “jack of all trades” who could accomplish any task put before him. Jack had a passion for building things, fixing motors, woodworking and welding, but truly found joy in spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and an amazing example of service. Day or night he was always willing to lend a hand to whoever was in need whether that was family, friends, or a complete stranger.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was married to his lifelong sweetheart Jo Ann Gothard for over 55 years.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann and four children Kami, Brent, Mindi and Lora, grandchildren Chase, Mason, Tanner, Sydney, Hunter, Tayler, Trinity, Gracie, Bailey, Rilee, Slade, Tatum and Cooper, great grandchildren Isabelle, Jackson, Parker, Sophia, Lincoln, Hudson and Maverick and sister Cindi. He is preceded in death by his father Jack Sr., mother Barbara, brother Robert and sisters Linda and Wendy.

Jack’s memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on for generations to come, inspiring those around them with his faith, love of family and unforgettable spirit.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 10am, January 8, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 12951 N. 83rd Ave, Peoria, AZ 85381. Arrangements by A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary.

A graveside service will take place on January 8, 2026, at 1:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, Arizona, 85024.
