Jack Douglas Stewart, 89, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away on October 3, 2026. He was born on August 2, 1937, in Clumper West Virginia to Curtis and Fanny (Winebarger) Stewart. Jack lived a life marked by steady devotion, honest work, and deep care for those he loved most.
In his early years, Jack worked alongside his family as a migrant worker after leaving his birthplace of West Virginia. He attended school in Avondale, Arizona in the early 1950's, where he excelled in sports. In the mid 1950's, he joined the sheet metal apprenticeship program—an early step in a long career defined by diligence and reliability.
Jack was a sheet metal worker for Local 359, serving as a business agent and then a business manager in Phoenix and Tucson. Respected for his integrity and work ethic, he dedicated himself to the people he represented and to the craft he knew so well. Jack retired in 1994, and in retirement he turned his love to the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and traveling with his wife Joann.
Jack was married to Joann for 44 years. Together they raised daughters Dorene, Jacqueline, Charlene and Andrea. Throughout his life, Jack remained a beloved and cherished presence—devoted to family, and mindful of the responsibilities that come with love. He was a man who loved his family deeply and wanted to make sure his daughters were well taken care of after his passing.
Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, gun shows, traveling by car, train and taking cruises. Jack also enjoyed dinning out. Whether on the road, on the water, or gathered around a table, he carried himself with the straightforward sincerity that friends and family came to trust.
In the community, Jack was a member of the Sun Lake Single Group. He attended Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. He was also active in the Sheet Metal Workers retiree meetings, maintaining the connections he valued, and the friendships built over years of shared work and shared purpose.
Jack's favorite saying was “Order what you want and eat what you order.” When Jack wanted to talk to you and he hadn't heard from you in a while he would call you and always ask, “Did you call me.” These familiar words, offered in his own unmistakable way, will be remembered with affection by all who knew him.
Jack leaves behind daughters Dorene (Kevin) Dyer, Jacqueline (Bruce) Vanderslice, Charlene (Saul Jarkunas) Sams, Andrea (Frank) McShane; grandchildren Mark (Amy) Mundy, Julie (Daniel) Krause, Jamie (Tim) Smith, Michael Dyer, Kristi (Jeff) Geib, Ryan (Jenny) Vanderslice, Danielle Le Blanc, Shane McShane, Ronan McShane, Gannon McShane and Irelynn McShane; 17 great grandchildren; brother Ronnie (Laura) Stewart; sister Judy McConnell; sisters-in-law Joy Stewart, Pat Stewart, Jean Stewart and Elena Stewart.
