Our son Jalijah A. Pitts, known to all as "Gula", was born on March 14, 2004, in Phoenix, AZ. at Maryvale hospital. Jalijah was the first child that the two of us shared with one another. At that time, neither one of us understood the blessing we were sharing.
Jalijah was an incredibly happy baby, with his big brown eyes and a contagious smile. He only cried when he had to leave mom’s side and be dropped off at daycare. As a toddler, he loved watching the show Gullah Gullah Island and that is what earned him the nickname Gula. He had the deepest voice you could imagine a kid having, the voice of Barry White coming out of this little body. Growing up, Jalijah did the things all young boys do. He played chess (taught by Uncle Hubby), football and basketball. Basketball was his thing, he may not have had the height, but he had the skill and heart of a baller.
Jalijah was never one to follow the rules, he was going to live and experience life on his terms. That boy went to almost every high school in Phoenix and made friends everywhere he went. He knew everyone, they mama and grandmama. Jalijah never allowed anything or anyone to stop him from living life the way he wanted. Jalijah was fearless, honest, outgoing, a great dancer, funny, kind, a great dresser and never one to shy away from a camera. There are not enough words to describe him, to know him was to fall in love with him.
We know that our son did not pass in vain this was God's plan for him we are honored that our son's life had a meaning far greater than our own understanding. Our son’s passing was meant to strengthen our family and faith. Our son was not a wanderer he was a disciple that was given the assignment to speak life into the souls of the lost and restore their faith in God and themselves.
On December 2, 2024, our son fulfilled the assignment that God had given him, and he was welcomed through those pearly gates by his paternal grandparents Leroy Homes and Cecelia Pitts, his maternal step- grandfather Richard Navarro Jr. and his paternal uncle Floyd- Anthony Williams. Here to treasure his memory are his maternal grandparents Calvin Harrington and Tiffany Navarro, brothers Jaron Pitts, Heaven Hooks, Jaylen Pitts and Jayden Rideau-Pitts his uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Let our strength be a part of your testimony, we are praying for you as you pray for us.
There will be a visitation for Gula on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Serenity Chapel, 719 N. 27th Ave. Phoenix, AZ. from 11 AM until noon. His Celebration of Life will begin at noon.
