James’ parents were Matthew and Eileen Doyel. He was the second born of four boys, David his older brother, followed by his two younger brothers, Bill and Joe.
James joined the US Navy on September 20th, 1965 and was honorably discharged on September 19th, 1969.
On November 24th, 1972, James married the love of his life, Jeannette Doyel (Crawford), and was gifted three beautiful children; Brandi, born on August 1st, 1975, Garrett, born on June 21st, 1977, and Chad, born on December 28th, 1985. James was a man devoted to his family.

James was always active in every church he was a member of. He performed maintenance and repairs, taught Sunday school, and did anything else that was asked of him. His greatest impact may have been as the youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Fontana, where God used him to touch the lives of multiple young people, and fostered friendships, many of which continued up until his death.
Some of James’ favorite foods included Dr Pepper, Whataburger, Butterfingers, and Tootsie Rolls. Many of his favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and collecting Hot Wheels, as well as just spending time with his family. Later in his life, spending time with his grandchildren would bring him great joy, and he would light up with happiness in their presence.
James’ memory will be carried on by the grace, patience, and love he showed everyone he met in his life.
He was preceded in death by his son, Garrett Doyel, and his parents, Matthew and Eileen Doyel.
