On Monday, July 25, 2022, James W. Hysell, 84, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away. Jim (aka Jimmy) was born in Columbus Ohio on November 2, 1938. He graduated Mishawaka High School in 1956. Jim joined the seminary at Our Lady of the Lake in Syracuse Indiana from 1956 through 1959. A master of many languages, Jim served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1964 and served as a linguist in the NSA and was honorably discharged. Jim earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Indiana in 1977 also graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1980.
Jim began his banking career in 1965 and remained in banking until 1982 before serving in the credit union industry until his retirement. He completed his long and successful career in his role as President and CEO of Desert Schools Credit Union prior to retirement in 1997.
During Jim’s career in the financial services industry, he met his bride, Amy Karmolinksi. Jim and Amy were united in marriage in 1983 and enjoyed spending time together along with their fur-children, cooking and enjoying Amy’s beautiful meals, hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. He mostly enjoyed his alone time with Amy.
Jim was an avid reader, continued language studies and loved music from opera to heavy metal. He worked on many collections over his lifetime as he loved the research and history of many subjects.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Amy Hysell (Karmolinksi), two daughters Karen Tatalovich and Linda Raab, and son Greg Hysell.
To honor Jim’s memory, we are holding a celebration of their life on Friday, August 26 at the Moon Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers for the celebration, we ask that you send flowers to someone you love and remind them what they mean to you.
