James William Kane, of Cable, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 83. Jim was born on October 31, 1941, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Francis and Margaret (Hanson) Kane. A graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, he worked as a machinist at Beloit Corporation for over 25 years until his retirement in 2000.
Jim married Nova (Turpen) on August 4, 1962 and they were together for 60 years. They welcomed and loved dearly two children, Diane and John, one daughter-in-law, Christie, and one grandson, Nicholas. Jim’s life was focused on faith, family, friends, and fixing things. Jim was active in Lions in Cable and Bear Point Association, as well as serving as an elder and on altar guild at Trinity Lutheran Chapel. He attended Bible study both at Trinity (Cable) and Cross of Christ (Anthem), and did daily devotions at home. Jim also enjoyed tinkering, constructing and repairing wooden fences, benches, or other broken structures. He and Nova built the shed on their property up north.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors. Whether he was hunting or fishing, tending to his garden, relaxing on the deck, or taking hikes, Jim loved to be surrounded by God's creation. Jim and his family spent many weeks each year camping - first in a tent, then a camper, then renting a cabin, and finally buying a cottage in northern WI. When he and Nova retired, they built a log home that Jim helped to enjoy design. Eventually, they bought a home in AZ where he was able to enjoy both the forest on Lake Namakagon in WI as well as the Sonoran Desert north of Phoenix.
Jim also was an avid Packers and Brewers fan, watching many games over the years and wearing hats, shirts, and socks to show his team support. He also enjoyed cooking, including finding and trying new recipes. He left us countless pictures he took over the years, including slides and black and white photos, some of which he developed in the basement of his home in Beloit.
Jim was most proud of his family and cherished time together with them. Whether it was visiting Nova’s siblings or watching Nicholas play baseball, Jim was always happy to spend time with family. He was always looking for ways to protect and provide for his family. From scaring away a bear in the garage to building a fence to keep his children safe, Jim exemplified a loving father and will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his children Diane Kane of Genoa City, WI and John (Christie) Kane of Phoenix, AZ; his grandson, Nicholas of Phoenix, AZ; nieces and several grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nova, his parents, and a nephew, Gregory.
Services are being planned to take place in Wisconsin at a later date.
Memorials can be sent in Jim's honor to either Cross of Christ Lutheran Church at 39808 N Gavilan Peak Pkwy, Anthem, AZ 85086 or Trinity Lutheran Chapel at 13520 Spruce St, Cable, WI 54821.
