James “Jim” Gale Lawson, M.D., 73, of Phoenix, AZ died at his residence on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was born in Cleveland, TN on July 4, 1938. He served in the United States Air Force and spent 13 months in S. Vietnam as a general surgeon. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1967. Jim and his family moved to Luke A.F. Base – Glendale upon his return from S. Vietnam. Jim was a solo practitioner of general surgery in Phoenix for 35 years and retired in 2005. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joy and three children: daughter, Shawn Lawson, Phoenix, son, Kevin Lawson and his partner Gary Burnett, Portland, OR, son, Shannon Lawson and his wife Emily, of Phoenix, two grandsons: Luke Fintan Lawson and Keegan Brody Lawson, of Phoenix, and brother Clyde L. Lawson and his wife Ruth, of Knoxville, TN. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Orangewood Presbyterian Church, 7321 N. 10th St., Phoenix.
