Jim was the first of three children born to Edwin and Marjorie (Kling) Reiersgaard, and spent his formative years in and around Halliday and Killdeer, North Dakota. Jim graduated from Halliday High School in 1962, Minot State with a Bachelors Degree, and eventually earned his Masters in Education from North Dakota State University. Jim voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam as a Commissioned Officer after completing Officers Basic School in Quantico Virginia and was Honorably Discharged with the Rank of Captain with the Second Battalion 4th Marines, AKA the Magnificent Bastards, in 1970.
Jim spent the next years until 1985 building and working his farm in Halliday with his wife, Mardelle Ann Lind and his two boys Hud and Jud Reiersgaard. During this time he was also a teacher and principal at Halliday High School. Jim and Mardelle divorced in 1985 after which he and his boys moved to Crested Butte, Colorado where Jim owned and operated Rocky Mountain Rentals, a property management company and later enjoyed the majority of his retirement on his property in Palisade, Colorado. Jim moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2018 where he enjoyed the Arizona sun.
Jim enjoyed Team roping, restoring old farm tractors and old cars and pickups. He also enjoyed visiting with friends especially over a cold beer.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Hud Reiersgaard of Phoenix Arizona and Jud Reiersgaard of Clifton Colorado, his sister Judi Schulz, and his brother Kim Reiersgaard.
