What a beautiful celebration of life for my dear friend Janet today.  She deeply touched everyone she met. 

Rest In Peace, Janet. We shall meet again. 

I remember the way Janet always had a cheerful greeting for me at church. Her strong faith in Jesus was what she shared. She was a wonderful example of what it means to be a follower of ourLord. I will miss her.

  We are so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences. 
  We will always remember your mom when she visited Hawaii with her goodies she made. They were always delicious. Although we lived far away,  she always remembered us.  
  We were able to visit your family home in Phoenix when my two sons lived there. Mom’s hospitality was very comforting for us.

Dear Keith, Dana, Cynthia and Glenn,

Janet was a mighty prayer warrior, she always prayed for our family - especially when my mom was in the hospital and hospice. She would always remember our birthdays and anniversaries- which she would send a handmade card (no text or email!). I will miss her goodies (Mochi, cookies, popcorn, arare) that she would mail to our family- always accompanied with a heartfelt note.  I will also miss her annual Hawaii visits.  We would always plan a family gravesite visit.  She would always share a memory while placing flowers at love ones! She asked for so little, but gave so very much!

   Was so saddened to hear of Janet’s passing. She was my comforter especially after I moved to Virginia….. always offering prayers for my family when they were ill or facing difficulties. We kept in touch through letters and phone calls.  Always felt her positive view of life and reminding me that God is good and she was at peace.
   During her last few weeks she remained cheerful telling me she was cooking miso soup with egg and going shopping for her favorite kind of peaches.
   Her strength and faith are what I will cherish.

Dearest Keith and Dana, 

There's an Okinawan proverb that embodies the spirit of your mother Janet; "kuu sa kana sa" (trans. "little things are kind"). I will forever remember your mother as a thoughtful and deeply introspective person who I enjoyed spending time with. Although we lived apart in different stats, I always looked forward to her visits so the family would get together with both of you and your mom. 

Your mother recently shared memories of the Higa family and her experiences growing up in Ewa. She shared in her letters how Baba bowed to her at graduation as the distinguished person she became. This memory is special because I was so young during my memories with Baba and it provided a glimpse into someone special to the family that I have gotten to know through stories from your mother and my dad. 

Your mom's stories about Baba will live on through a miso pot she sent me last June. She shared this family treasure that Baba brought from Okinawa and passed onto her. The miso pot is in my condo where I seek solace when working on my dissertation. I often think of your mother's letters and memories when finding myself needing the reassurance that I'll be able to finish my research on Okinawa.

I look forward to visiting your mother's burial site in Phoenix and properly paying my respects. Until then, I hope that both of you take comfort in knowing that your mother was loved and is missed by many.

My deepest and most heart felt condolences to Janet's sons, Keith and Dana.  Janet was always so nice and sweet to me.   She always asked how I and my two children were doing, and always expressed the kindest and most uplifting words.  I am deeply saddened to hear about her passing.  I know she is up there with her fellow angels, and I know she will be at heaven's gate to meet not only me but all of her friends and family.  Her loving nature and kindness will live on forever in my heart.
