

Janet Yee Wong passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026 at the age of 88. She was born August 15, 1937 in Toisan, Guangdong, China to Jack N. Yee and Wong Fee Wah. In 1947, after the Communist Party seized the family property, Janet moved to Hong Kong with her mother. She attended Pui Ying Middle School of Hong Kong. She later went to Mei Lan Ladies’ Tailoring School and excelled. During her time in Hong Kong, she fell in love with American movies and Marilyn Monroe.
Janet immigrated to the United States on Labor Day 1961 and was reunited with her family in Phoenix, AZ. In addition to working in the family grocery store, she was tasked with teaching her 3 younger siblings Chinese. She later met and married Wayne Wong on October 4, 1964. They were married for 56 years. She later worked as a seamstress at John’s Uniform.
Janet enjoyed gardening, playing mahjong, watching movies, spending time with her family and going to dim sum. Her favorite pastime was telling stories from her past. She had a photographic memory and could recollect events from the age of 3.
Janet is survived by sons Durand Wong and Duane Wong (Yu Wen) and daughter Shirley Wong. She is also survived by her brothers David M. Yee (Stephanie) and Harvey M. Yee (Patty), sister Mary Ann Young (Mike), sister-in-law Jane Yee and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents and her brother Willie M. Yee.
Services are scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026 at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuaries, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix, AZ. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Gravesite services will be at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ at 12:30 PM.
