Janice Marie Lindgren, age 90, passed away in Phoenix, AZ on February 22, 2024. Janice was born on April 25, 1933, in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, to John Armand Preve and Mabel Downs Preve. Her loving husband of 66 years, James Bernard Lindgren, preceded her in death, as did her parents and older brother, John Armand Preve Jr. Janice is survived by her five children: Erin Goold (Dan), Susan Lindgren, James M. Lindgren (Loretta), Laurie Carter (Joe), and Timothy Lindgren (Cathy), as well as ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Growing up, Janice developed a lifetime love of York Beach, Maine, from her many visits to Stardust, the family cottage. She enjoyed turning cartwheels, not just at the beach, but even in the law office where her mother worked! Janice met her beloved husband Jimmy when they were both in their teens, working at Hitchcock Toy Store in Concord. Janice trained and received her RN from the Margaret Pillsbury School of Nursing, and embarked on a career of hospital nursing. Comments in her yearbook were prophetic: A great appreciation of living . . . the ability to give unselfishly . . . true friendship, unwaning with time. . .
Her husband’s job transfers took the family from coast to coast, landing at various times in Schenectady, NY; Phoenix, AZ; San Diego, CA; and Hollis, NH. Janice enjoyed the many family camping trips through Arizona, California, and Mexico, often rockhounding along the way. She and Dad played bridge with friends and hosted many parties. She made holidays extra special, with homemade angel food birthday cake, and homemade cookie and card parties on Christmas Eve. And wow, what Santa left under the tree!
The retirement years provided time to travel, enjoy cruises, motor-homing across the country, visits to family and friends, and most importantly back to York Beach and her beloved Nubble lighthouse. She also found time to solve murder mysteries, whether in print or on screen.
Dad loved a good nickname. Mom was our “Mother Bear” and “Cruise Director”. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Her strong Catholic faith sustained her through life. We are comforted that she is now able to rest in peace with her dear husband Jimmy.
Visitation and Rosary Wednesday March 13, 10:30 AM, with Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. St. Luke Catholic Church, 19644 North 7th Ave, Phoenix. Burial to follow at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix. A short reception will be held at 1:00 PM at the Boulder Ridge Community Club House, 2233 E. Behrend Dr, Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janice’s name to the American Heart Association.
