Jean Alice Kent, “nee” Cook, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012, at 6:30 AM in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bernard K. Kent, and her three loving children and their families.
Jean was born September 8, 1922, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada to Frederick and Alice Cook. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. She attended school in Belleville and became a teacher at the Ontario School for the Deaf in Belleville.
She was married July 30, 1949, to Bernard K. Kent, originally from Phoenix Arizona. For their honeymoon, they drove to Los Angeles, California, where Bernard had just finished college at the University of Southern California. They made the trip in a 1932 Ford V-8 Coup, re-built by Bernard and his brother Fred.
They moved to South Pasadena, California. There they raised three children; Aileen Louise, who currently lives with her husband, Bruce Erickson, in Phoenix, Arizona; Douglas Bernard, who lives with his wife, Claire Elliott, in Palo Alto, California; Barbara Jean, who lives with her husband, Mark Ziegler, in Federal Way, Washington; Bernard and Jean have eight grandchildren: Lindsay Ziegler (Fernandes), Jonathan, and Joshua Ziegler; Karissa, Christopher (spouse Laura), and Daniel (spouse Stephanie) Erickson and Nolan Kent and Lara Elliott. They have two great grandchildren: Darla and Dakota Fernandes.
Jean was a speech therapist to special needs children but mostly loved spending time with her family. She and Bernard were long time members of the United Methodist Church in South Pasadena, California, where they were very active. They were residents of South Pasadena for 50 years. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family across the United States and Canada.
After over 60 years in the Los Angeles area, they moved to a wonderful assisted living apartment at the Stratford in Phoenix Arizona, where they could be closer to their daughter Aileen. There they made many new friends. She was very happy and content.
Jean will be missed by all who know her, but we know she is with her Lord and Savior.
