

Jean A. Powell-Poarch, 92, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home, on Thursday February 26, 2015. Jean was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 11, 1922. She is survived by her daughter Carol Dight-Lin, son Richard Powell, grandson Russell Dight and granddaughter Jesse Powell. Jean had a masters of education from Arizona State University and was a high school teacher for 25 years. She taught at Camelback High School and Trevor Brown High School, in Phoenix, Arizona. She also taught at Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan. Jean was married to James M. Powell in 1947 and moved to Arizona in 1954. They divorced in 1976, but remained close friends. In 1981, Jean married Donald Poarch until his death. Jean loved to travel, play golf, entertain, sew, knit, loved Theatre and was a devout Lutheran. She leaves many friends and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at La Casa De Cristo Lutheran Church at 6300 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Memorial donations, in Jean’s name, may be made to Optum Hospice for the Dream Foundation.
