Dear Hammond family, I’d like to offer my sincere condolences upon your loss but also to add a small personal story.
I wanted to tell you that your father or grandfather was an excellent mentor and leader in his Virginia State Police career. He was the sergeant in the area (Emporia) I was assigned to from the academy. Years later, I was lucky enough to be promoted to Captain and I saw him at a VSP function after he retired and he smiled and said he clearly taught me too much and we had a good laugh. As I think now about his passing I realize even more that my successes were in fact his successes and I’m sure I am but one of many he helped along. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.
