Joan Alice Hickling, age 77, was born in Leon, West Virginia on August 12, 1940 to the late Early and Fonna Bowles. She entered Heaven’s gate on Sunday, October 22, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Phoenix. Joan known as Joanie to those who knew her best, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from Mayfield Heights High School where she met her husband who was her high school sweetheart. Joan was part of the Greenway Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a nurturing character who welcomed everyone into her home. Joan was known for her ability to love everyone unconditionally without judgement. She was the rock and strength that kept her friends and family close with her bright smile and little button nose. You always knew she was there with her White Shoulders fragrance. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Hickling; parents, Early and Fonna Bowles; sister, Luella Dunaway; brother-in-law, David Hickling; sister-in-law, Betty Bowles; grandson, Greggory McCullar; and three nieces, Patricia “Pat” Brosnatch, Susan Payne, and Karen Dunaway. Joan is survived by her three loving children, Billy “Butch” Hickling (wife Demetria Cousineau), Fonna “Peg” Hickling (Husband Todd Bartlett), and Guy Hickling (wife Karen Hickling); three granddaughters, Stephanie “Nikki” Greenhalgh (husband Joshua “Josh” Greenhalgh, Sandra “Sandy” Pettry, and Hillary Hickling; three grandsons, Christopher Cousineau, Arron Cousineau, and Paul Hickling (girlfriend Brenna Patrick), six great-grandsons, Clayton Connell, Rian Pettry, Jusdon Davis-Francis, Kyle Valerio-Hickling, Quinn Cousineau, and Dedrick Valerio; four great-granddaughters, Patricia (PJ) Pettry, Davana Cipolla, Olivia (Breezy) Hickling, and Joslynn Cousineau; two brothers, Albert Bowles and Billy Bowles ( wife Sally Bowles); sister-in-law, Mary Brennan (husband Ronald Brennan); six nieces, Jill Brennan, Kimberly (wife Ridge) Holdridge, Kimberly Arganti, Kathleen Bowles- Bowman, Sharon Dahms, Cathe Pearson (husband Dwayne, Patience, Elzada and Zayn); five nephews, Michael Bowles, Glen Dunaway, Steven Dunaway, Harry Reger and Brian Reger; and many more loved ones. Visitation will be at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85023 on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm with the Funeral service to start at 2:00 pm.
