

Joel grew up in the San Fernando Valley, California. He attended Burbank High School. While in High School, Joel met his one true love, Marylu. Together they had one child, Natalie.
Joel was a passionate man who loved his family. He grew up in the catholic faith having attended catechism and receiving his 1st Communion.
Growing up Joel was an active boy. He practiced baseball and Martial Arts. You would often see him riding his chromed BMX bike around the neighborhood. His favorite type of music was Rock; he loved heavy metal music.
Joel is described as a “deep thinker,” he always expressed his philosophical ideas to anyone. He was very creative and he was an inventor; always creating something out of nothing.
Joel had lots of hobbies and interests. He was obsessed with the Martial Arts and keeping in shape. He would build obstacle courses and run them just to keep in shape and practice. He loved wood working and other things he could build and use his hands.
He was interested in world culture and he had a passion for history. He loved people. He cared about others, genuinely. He was always available to help neighbors with small maintenance tasks and even making meals when he thought someone was hungry. He was the man who offered his time before someone had to ask.
Joel was a minimalist not having acquired many possessions; but he would always play the lottery. No one was ever sure if he played because he personally wanted the money or if it was just for the excitement of potentially winning.
He loved being around his daughter and his grandchildren, he wanted to teach them everything he could especially meaningful life lessons. Joel Torres will always be remembered and loved by those who were closed to him.
