

John Dong passed away on July 27, 2011. He was born on November 23, 1933 in Canton, China and came to the United States with his mother at age 14. In Phoenix he established the businesses of the Pagoda Restaurant and Peacock Flowers. During his business and retired years, John was a passionate community service contributor: Chairman of Phoenix Baptist Hospital and Medical Center Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board of Chris Ridge Village, Inc and Silver Ridge Village, Inc., member of Arizona Board of Education, President and a founder of the Phoenix Chinese United Association, President of the Ong Ko-Met Family Association, President of Phoenix Chinese Welfare Council, a founder of the Chinese American Citizen Alliance, and many other contributions. John had fond memories of meeting President Ronald Reagan as a customer in his flower shop. He enjoyed very much walking his chow, Mei-Mei, around Camelback Mountain area of his residence. John is survived by his wife, Wen Jin (Judy), his sisters, Lily Dong, Shirley Dong, Rose Dong, and his brother Bing Dong, his aunts, Lucy Yuen and Lily McCormick, and nephews, Dewayne Servo and Rocky Servo. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave in Phoenix. A visitation beginning at 8:30a.m. to 10:00a.m. with a funeral service at 10:00a.m., burial to follow.
