John was my 1SG when I transferred to Arizona from Montana. ( 2/180 FA Gun 1, Top Gun Comp. Winner 2002 ). John and another NCO tried to help me with a personal problem, which I was later discharged for. When I re-enlisted in 2008, our paths crossed again. He was a Captain in the same Command group. We often reminisced about  our days with the FA, and how proud he was of my change. Rest easy Battle!

My heart hurts for his family.  I am still in shock from the news.  When I think of him all I can see is that smile, I've never met anyone that lived life out loud like he did.   So many memories from the military, hanging out as friends, living together as roommates.   I was so glad to reconnect on Facebook and tried to catch up to him every time business would take me to Phoenix, and for some reason or other it never came to pass.  I'll see you again brother,  on Fiddler's Green. 

John personified what it means to be a man, soldier, father, and friend.	John lived life to it’s fullest and left us too soon. He will be missed beyond words. 
“I rode with him…and I have no complaints.”  


     Rest in Peace our brother, words cannot express how special a person you were. You will be missed by all who came across your path but know we will all meet again when it is time. It is with our sincerest sympathy we send out our heartfelt condolences to the Gehring family, friends and all that knew him. 

I love you brother and I will miss you forever.   I always looked up to you as a mentor.  I will never forget the words of wisdom that I learned from you!

Y’all welcomed me back from the war and introduced me to a well run Artillery Unit. Your leadership was an inspiration. I could always count on your help running down my equipment. I am glad to know you. As a member of the NCO club, we had some good times at the games. ‘Til we serve together again, RIP.

Where to begin…. we grew up together back on the farm, played football together, and we were great friends through school.  We always had a good time together and there was never a dull moment, he was always smiling and just a great friend.  We were planning a fly fishing trip, but then COVID hit and we never did get the chance to hang out once again.  I miss you dearly my old friend - God Bless John and his entire Family…..and a special note for Sylvia - you were like a second Mom to me, I miss you also, and I will say a few extra prayers for you.

I was so saddened to hear of your passing John. There’s so many things I remember about you from our school days. You were so kind and friendly to everyone. One of the things I will never forget is that wonderful smile of yours. You could light up a room with your smiling face.  Rest In Peace John. 
To your family and all your friends I send my sincere sympathy. You are in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏🙏
