John J. Marquez, 66 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away unexpectedly February 12,2019 in Coral Springs, Florida. John was born in McNary, Arizona on February 9,1953 to Joe and Ramona Marquez the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1957 where he grew up.
John was a proud Phoenix Union Coyote graduate where he was an active member in Student Government. He was elected Class President in several classes. John accepted a scholarship to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The frigid weather was hard on this desert student so he returned to his home in Phoenix to attended ASU. While attending ASU John worked at AT&T. John began working part time with AT&T as a high school student. His career with AT&T took him to San Francisco, Tucson, New York and eventually to Coral Springs, FL where he made his home and retired as an AT&T Executive.
John lived in Florida for more than 30 years and made many friends. John’s life was celebrated by his friends at his favorite hang out Bru’s Sports Bar and Grill in Coral Springs Florida.
He is survived by his Aunt Rose Lopez, sisters Julia Martinez (Antonio), Frances Vera (David), brothers Ruben, and Michael and many nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Manuel and Eselena Marquez, maternal grandparents Cipriano and Estella Benitez, parents Joe and Ramona Marquez, brothers Robert and Anthony Marquez.
A visitation and Rosary will be held at Al Moore Grimshaw Funeral Home on Friday March 1, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
A celebration of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Basiica at 10:00am, internment to follow at St Francis Cemetery.
