

John Allan Shafer, 72, of Apache Junction, passed away on Oct. 26, 2014 as a result of a difficult battle with cancer. Family and friends were with him when he found peace. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to parents Ivan and Wilma Shafer on August 2, 1942. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother David Shafer. John was a scholar, patriot, beloved husband, adored father, and renowned character. He was an Air Force Officer that served his country for 25 years. He and his family enjoyed the many destinations, travels, and assignments during his active duty. After retirement, John attained a Doctorate Degree from the University of Nebraska. He worked professionally until moving to Arizona and retiring. While retired, he enjoyed time with family and friends. He was an avid outdoors man that enjoyed hunting and fishing, albeit rarely successful. John is survived by his wife of 49 year Delores; daughter Carolyn Bowker; sons Bruce and Glenn Shafer; grandchildren Wil Bowker and Cheyenne Robinson; and, relatives, in-laws, and a host of friends.
