

Johnny L. Verduzco Sr. was called home from this life early in the evening of April 17, 2016. He is survived by Carmen Verduzco, his wife of forty-seven years; his daughters Diana Smyer and her husband Erik, Rosemary Brooks and her husband Daniel, Veronica Estrada and her husband Ryan; and his sons Johnny Verduzco Jr. and his wife Carla, and Augustine and his fiancé Anna. He joins his beloved father Baldemero “Baldie” Verduzco Sr. who preceded him on February 18, 2001, his mother Jennie Verduzco who preceded him on September 25, 1998, and his sister Estella “Pie” Martinez who preceded him on October 15, 2007.
Johnny was born on November 2, 1948 in Santa Monica, California; the sixth child out of twelve. In the early 1950’s he moved to Casa Grande, Arizona with his family before settling in Phoenix, Arizona in the mid 1950’s. He graduated from South Mountain high school in 1967. In 1968 he married his one true love and soul mate, Carmen Bejarano. In April 1969 Johnny began a thirty-five year career in Maricopa County serving as a highway maintenance supervisor until his retirement in June 2003. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his free time with his growing family which includes his nine grand children and four great grand children.
Johnny was a was a jack of all trades (our MacGyver) as well as a passionate outdoorsman, skilled hunter, and avid fisherman. He enjoyed regular family camping and fishing trips, and sharing his love for outdoor activities with his children and his grand children. He also enjoyed frequent travel in California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona as he delighted in spending time with his sisters, brothers, cousins and other family members as well as his numerous friends. Johnny also enjoyed volunteering his time along with his sisters and brother for Saint Mary’s Foodbank. Most of all he treasured his time with Carmen as they remained close together throughout his life, holding hands as he was called home.
Johnny is survived by his siblings; Delores Montano, Cruz Savinon, Baldemero Verduzco Jr., Rose Anderson, Mary Helen Lucero, Richard Verduzco, Geneva “Heno” Delacruz, Eva Verduzco, Tina Barrera, and Manuel Verduzco; numerous nieces and nephews.
