Jose Juan Gallegos has passed away in the city that saw him be born and raised. Jose was a gift to his family and the world, and so befittingly, he was born on The 24th of December 1996. Son to Jose Juan and Yolanda. Jose leaves behind his parents and siblings: two older brothers and two younger sisters. He is also survived by the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.
At a young age, Jose showed interest and appreciation for the arts. He would come up with video game ideas that he would then express in comics he would hand draw. As he grew older, he became quite the music enthusiast and would constantly be found singing and dancing. Jose was eager to discover who he really was at his core, experimenting with fashion, art, and journaling. He came out to his friends and family in middle school. Ever since then, he was a loud and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. He was a spirited graduate of North High School and later attended ASU as a theater major. He participated in many clubs and extracurricular activities. Some notable ones are STUGO, cheerleading, dance, and drama club. Jose was very much engaged with local politics and encouraged those around him to get involved as well. He spoke out against social injustices.
Jose was an activist to the moment of his death. He was determined to fight for an improved quality of life for the under-represented in our community. Jose was an advocate for affordable housing, gay rights, and the general idea that everyone should have their basic needs met as well as access to simple luxuries. He spoke against, the recent treatment of immigrants, the school-to-prison pipeline, and the genocide in Palestine. As in the best of cases in situations such as this, he will be remembered by more people than he would have expected, and mourned by as many as is right.
