Joseph John Brown Jr. passed away on the morning of January 20, 2021 at the age of 78, just 35 days before what would have been his 79th Birthday. He was taken from this earth way too soon after a short battle with Covid 19.
Joseph John Brown Jr. was also known as Joe, John, Johnny, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Papa, Big Papa, and numerous other nicknames. Joseph loved life. He was a man filled with happiness and expressed it with everything he did and to everyone he met. He was a kind man, but not a subtle man. Everybody knew when he was in the room with his infectious smile, outgoing personality and BOOMING voice. He was Unmistakable and Unforgettable.
Joseph grew up in Phoenix, AZ and attended North High School. Following High School, he enlisted in the Navy where he served 4 years (1960-1964) as a Hospital Corpsman (HM-2). While in the Navy, he served as a Pharmacy Tech and had ideas of becoming a Pharmacist. Following his military service, he moved back to Arizona where he returned to school. He decided to study Plant Sciences and graduated from ASU with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the College of Engineering Science.
He explored a few professions before ultimately following his Father, Joseph J. Brown Sr. in to the field of Construction, specifically Structural Concrete work. Over a career spanning 35 years, he worked as a Carpenter, Forman, and Superintendent. Ultimately Joseph partnered with his father to start a Construction Company (CS Construction) where he worked for 20 years and became very successful. He succeeded because of his strong work ethic and by treating everybody top to bottom with the utmost respect and integrity.
Joseph found the love of his life, Susan Spurlin, in High School. They were married in 1961 and spent 48 years together, until Susan passed in 2009 of Alzheimers. Joseph is survived by 2 Siblings (Judy & Linda), 3 Children (Ron, Cari & Brian), 10 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren (and counting), and his Companion of 10 years, Julia along with her Family.
The love and generosity Joseph shared with his large Family was limitless. His Big Smile, Booming Voice and Warm Personality will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. His greatest joy was found in the successes and happiness of those he loved. Joseph John Brown Jr. was truly one of a Kind!
