He joined the Marines out of high school and was proud to serve his country. Being a Marine was not just something he did, but truly part of who he was. After his service, he pursued higher education and later worked as a ramp serviceman for TWA.
He enjoyed traveling, and was an avid hunter and fisher. This he did with great passion, and he loved not just the sport but the camaraderie of getting together with his long-time buddies. No one could accuse him of being much of a handyman around the house or a great navigator, but if you ever had a question about history, government, or world events, he was your guy. He could answer almost every question on any given day watching Jeopardy—truly a walking encyclopedia with a love for learning.
He was a good man and a wonderful father who will be dearly missed by his four daughters, stepdaughters, family, and friends. Joseph was survived by his daughters: Janice Manganaro, husband Johnny, and children Alycia and Johnathan; Kathleen Goodwin, husband Steve, and children Amanda, Steven, and Paige; Jo Ann Cassidy and children Peter and Jaime; Cathy Herbst, husband Clint, and children James, Nathaniel, and Tessa. He is also survived by his stepdaughters Jody Panarello and Nancy Coman, as well as five great-grandchildren: Carter, Colton, Trevor, Ruby, and Anastasia.
Joseph will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him
