Joseph Edward Maitland peacefully left this world, while in his home, in Phoenix, AZ, on December 1, 2016. He struggled with debilitating non-stop headaches which were a result of a traumatic brain injury that occurred in 2004. He was born on January 8, 1974, in Buffalo, New York. He moved to Phoenix when he was 4 years old.
Joe married the love of his life, Michelle Brown Maitland, on July 7, 2007., in Maui. He was very slow in the "committing department" as they were with each other since July of 1993. Joe and Michelle never had their own biological children but shared the love of 3 dogs and 2 cats throughout his life. Joe loved spending time with his dogs, Cody and Rukkus, as well as Timber, who preceded his death in 2015. His cats also preceded his death.
Joe was an electrician who specialized in insurance restoration until his first brain injury in 2004. He truly loved his job, and helping people, until he was forced to leave as a result of his injuries. Joe loved to travel with his wife, his dogs, camping, 4-wheeling, riding his quad, fixing anything and everything and tinkering around the house. He also LOVED his 1971 Camaro, sometimes more than his wife :-).
Joe is survived by his wife, Michelle; mother, Judith; sister, Linda; nephew, Michael; niece, Taylor; grandmother, Frances; two aunts (Christine and Lisa); and numerous cousins.
Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Thursday, December 8th, from 5:30-8:00pm at Iron Works Restaurant (17233 N 45th Avenue, Glendale, AZ).
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to either Arizona Humane Society or Barrows Neurological Institute (for traumatic brain injuries).
