Joshua Martin Wiestling, 92, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on August 16, 2026. He was born on April 5, 1934, in Irondequoit, New York, and was the only child of Richard and Missouri Wiestling of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
At age 13, he earned a clarinet scholarship to Valley Forge Military Academy. After high school, he attended the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis and later served in the Navy for two years before beginning his studies at Tri-State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.).
He began his career with Arizona Public Service (APS) in 1960 as an electrical engineer. In 1967, he joined San Diego Gas & Electric, where he oversaw the design of the high-voltage underground line from San Diego to Coronado Island. Joshua returned to APS in December 1972 and held various positions, culminating in his role as Supervisor of the Contracts Department at Deer Valley. He retired in April 1990.
He was a proud member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (I.E.E.E.), serving as Phoenix Section Chair in 1989. Golf was his lifelong passion, beginning at age 13 and continuing throughout his life. He and Christine enjoyed playing together in several golf leagues, including both the APS regular and retiree leagues, creating many cherished memories over the years. Joshua was also a gifted mechanical whiz with cars and anything mechanical or requiring assembly. His sharp mind was matched by a warm, quick sense of humor that made him a joy to be around and brought lightness to every room he entered.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Wiestling, who passed away in May 1999. He later married Christine (Clark) Grimes on February 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife Christine; daughters Judy Wiestling, Pamela Ball, Patricia Wiestling, and Cathy Frost; three grandchildren; stepdaughter Annette Vine; stepson Jim Grimes; three step-granddaughters; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on August 25, 2026, at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 West Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, AZ. Joshua will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery, 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ. Arrangements are by A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary.
