Married in September of 1949 to Richard (Dick) Shaul, she was the daughter of Hazel and Albert (Nick) Pressley of Evansville, Indiana.
A graduate of Reitz High Shool and Indiana State University, Joyce raised 4 boys, Rick, David, Jon and Dan as well as her daughter Julia (Stringer).
Residing in the Brazil area for a number of years, she and her husband were instrumental in the early years of the Calvary Baptist Church. She worked in the education field as a substitute and as a Special Education teacher. Following her move to Phoenix in 1976, she went on to become administrator of the Gompers School before her retirement to care for her husband who suffered from a long term ailment before his death in 1989.
Caregiving was perhaps her most well-known trait. In addition to her husband, she assisted in caring for her father as well as her mother-in-law prior to their passings. Her tender and loving care was most recently demonstrated as she moved back to Evansville for several years to care for her mother.
Following the death of Hazel, she returned to Phoenix and her family. She is survived by all of her children as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was a vibrant force in her church at Madison Baptist singing in the choir, serving on Boards and participating in the Women's ministries.
A humble, yet remarkable woman, she will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or Madison Baptist Church in Joyce's memory.
