

Karen Louise Burtz Greenfield was born June 6, 1942 in San Diego, California and passed away on November 12, 2014 in Arizona. In 1946 she moved with her parents and sisters to Ames, Nebraska to live on a small family farm. In Nebraska she attended Hay Valley School, a one-room country school house, from 1948-1956. This was the same rural school that her Grandmother Burtz had attended as a child. She attended Fremont High School in Fremont, NE for two years before her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1958. In Phoenix, she attended West High School and joined the Arizona Legionettes, a precision, all-girl marching and drill team and attained the rank of Major. After graduating high school in 1960, Karen entered the business world and worked for the State of Arizona Worker’s Compensation Department, General Electric, and the St. Paul insurance companies. During these years she enjoyed camping and hiking and hiked both the Grand Canyon and Havasupai Canyon. Being a small town girl at heart, Karen left Phoenix in 1995 and moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona. While living in the mountain country that she dearly loved, she switched careers. She became a CNA and worked with the elderly, giving them care in either their homes or in senior living facilities.
Karen is survived by her husband, Charles Greenfield; two sisters, Marilyn Estrada and Leeann Astemborski; three nieces, one nephew, and multiple great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Florence Burtz.
Interment with be at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. Memorial services to be held in Prescott Valley, are pending. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, the Banner Hospice Medical and Ancillary staff, and to the Area Agency on Aging Region One ombudsman group for their assistance.
