Karla Jean, known to her friends and family as Kaki, was born in Pickstown, South Dakota on August 14, 1949. Her passing occurred on November 19, 2024, in Phoenix at the age of seventy-five. She had recently taken a cruise with her long-time friend, Connie, to celebrate the occasion.
Kaki grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, with her brother Steve. There she attended local schools and eventually the family moved to Phoenix. She attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. During her second year, she made the decision to become a flight attendant and never looked back. She joined Hughes AirWest, which was later purchased by Republic Airlines, which merged with Northwest Airlines, which also later merged with Delta Airlines. Through all the changes, Kaki stayed put and retired from Delta after 43 years of flying, in December 2014. For several years during her career, she functioned as a representative to the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and found the work rewarding.
Through a mutual friend, Kaki was introduced to Nick, who would become her husband. They received their Marriage License on August 2, 1983, and became partners in life. In 1989, they added their son, Nicholas Alexander, creating a new dimension to their family life.
Kaki loved to be part of holiday planning. She was the first one in the family to get things rolling. There were menus to create, locations to be determined, family gift-giving plans to decide, and, of course, decorating that needed to be done. After sharing a large holiday meal, she was also the first one to jump up and help with cleaning. Afterwards, her holiday afternoons would be spent watching her beloved Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs or, of course, the Arizona Cardinals.
Kaki’s idea of a great treat was to sneak off to Dairy Queen for a chocolate malt. When she could, she would send her son Nicky to retrieve her treat. Regardless of what diet Kaki chose to follow, the chocolate malts had to be on the menu!
Kaki is missed and mourned by her family: her husband Nicholas Androsiuk, her son Nicholas Alexander (Jesse), her sisters-in-law Andrea Pope (Stephen) and Lasya Androsiuk, brother-in-law Roman Androsiuk (Janene), brother Steve Board, niece Melanie Chen (Kent), nephews Lance and Randy Board, grandnephew Dylan Chen, and her extended family of flight attendants.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Kaki on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at The Lakeview at Marriott, 7847 N Mockingbird Lane in Scottsdale. Her family ask that donations be made in her name to Hospice of the Valley. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix.
