Born March 30, 1929, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the only child of Frederick William Meder and Alice Elizabeth Astley. She was married to her eternal companion, Charles Frederick Burlett of Glens Falls, New York, on Dec. 5, 1948, and they lived in that area for 25 years. In 1977, they moved to Peoria, Ariz. where she spent the next 30 years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took great joy in serving others. She and her husband were especially pleased to serve as missionaries in the New Zealand Christchurch Mission from 1988-1990. Kay was truly a joy to all who knew her, and her wit and strength will be missed.
Kay is survived by three sons: Donald James Burlett and his wife, Peggy (Hornseth), of Oxford, Michigan; Paul William Burlett and his wife, Mary (Cason), of Fort Edward, New York and their three children: Clinton, Ligon, and Charlene; and, Edward John Burlett and his wife, Jamie (Rouse), of Abingdon, Virginia and their four children: Katharine (her namesake), Rebecca, Nathan, and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her husband after spending 55 years together.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12951 N. 83rd Ave, Peoria, Arizona. Interment beside her husband will follow with a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd. in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
