Kay was born on January 6, 1942 in Scranton, PA to Fred and Anne Welker.
Kay earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marywood University and a Masters Degree from
Florida Atlantic University.
Kay’s first vocation was teaching. Upon graduation from college she joined a Catholic Lay
Apostolate and taught grade school to migrant children in Florida. After marriage to Angelo
Vergnetti, husband of 56 years, she taught school in multiple cities where she lived. An
accomplished classical pianist she also led the music programs on a volunteer basis.
Once the first of her 4 children was born she stopped teaching. However, not one to sit on the
sidelines, she became a force in the Lauderhill, Florida community where she lived before
relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona, advocating for all kinds of programs for children. She was an
active member of the Lauderhill Women’s Club and was honored multiple times for her
contributions to the community. Later in life she became interested in Handwriting Analysis in
which she excelled. Also later in life, her compassion for families was evident in another role
as a Volunteer Bereavement Counselor working primarily with children who lost family
members and families who lost children.
Family was a priority in her life. She loved her children, Grandchildren and Great
Grandchildren. Every accomplishment was celebrated. Her children’s friends were always
welcomed in her home. She was known as the Kool-Aid mom in every community where she
lived. If anyone was looking for advice they knew they could always come to Mrs. V.
Kay is survived by her husband Angelo Vergnetti; Son Tony and wife Beth, Bethesda,
