Ken was born and raised in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1940. Ken’s ship, the U.S.S. Chicago, entered Pearl Harbor on Dec.8th and was sunk at Savo Island during the battle of Guadalcanal. Ken also witnessed the atomic tests at Bikini Island. After the War Ken moved his family to San Jose, CA. He served as manager of Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores of Santa Clara County. At the age of 62 he retired from Varian Associates in Palo Alto, CA. His passion for adventure led him to travel frequently, sometimes with his children, on trips to Mexico, South America, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Germany, where he met distant relatives. He coordinated several U.S.S. Chicago reunions. In recent years he travelled to Hawaii for the annual Pearl Harbor Memorials. Ken’s daughter and son-in-law in Phoenix, AZ. along with the VA, ACA Agency Home Healthcare, SunTree Adult Day Healthcare, and Seasons Hospice, all provided him with continued care during the last year of his life. When Ken was asked about his biggest accomplishment in life he responded, "…raising five children successfully." Ken peacefully passed away on April 21, 2016 at the age of 94. A visitation will be held from 5p-8p on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 719 N 27th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85009.
