Larry Floyd Cuthair, 85, passed away on October 14, 2026. Born on August 19, 1941, Larry began life on the Southern Ute reservation in Ignacio, Colorado, one of nine siblings born to Curtis and Belle Cuthair. Throughout his years, he was beloved and cherished for the steady way he showed up for others—devoted, faithful, and honest, demonstrating his love and devotion to Christ.
In 1976, Larry moved to Arizona to attend the American Indian Bible Institute in Phoenix, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in theology. His life reflected a hard-working spirit and a generous, selfless heart, expressed through years of responsibility and service. He served as Chief of property and supply with the Southern Ute Indian tribe, and later worked as a business administrator for American Express for 25 years.
In 1973, Larry married Evelyn Shelton in Aztec, New Mexico. Together, they built a home marked by kindness and devotion, raising nine children of their own and fostering numerous other children—an enduring testament to Larry’s giving nature and steadfast care.
Larry is survived by his wife, Evelyn G. Cuthair; his children, Floyd Cuthair, Sidonia Jones (d. Harry), Abigail Garcia (Eddie), Daniel Cuthair, Joye Bishop (Steve), and Kenny Mosley (Nicole). He is also survived by his grandchildren Kara Gallo, Chasity Cuthair, Ericka Williams, Joshua Jones, Tara Curren, Ivy Cuthair, Sarah Garcia, and Eleanor Mosley; and his great grandchildren Eliya, Elijah, Tüku, Willow, Lilah, Finley, Atreyu, and Koda. Larry also leaves behind his fur baby, Snowball.
Larry was preceded in death by his children David Rice, Julie Cuthair, and Jeremy Cuthair and his siblings, Maryann Scott, Richard Cuthair, Garnet Olguin, Christine Gomez, Vera Sage, Lavern Cuthair, Darlene Garcia, and Delbert Cuthair.
A man of simple joys and steady presence, Larry loved basketball, football, and most all sports. When not watching sports, you could find him watching his favorite Perry Mason episodes or a classic western. In his younger years, he especially loved fishing and hunting—pastimes that suited his patient nature and quiet appreciation for time well spent. He was also very involved with his church, living his faith with sincerity and constancy, and offering warmth and help in ways both seen and unseen. Even in serious moments, Larry’s gentle humor could lighten a room, reminding those around him to hold close what matters most.
A visitation will be held at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85013, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 pm with a reception to conclude.
