It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence Woodrow Potts announces his passing on December 7th, 2018 at the age of 48. Our beloved “Bear” was born in Phoenix, AZ in August 1970. He attended Sahuaro Elementary School, then graduated from Moon Valley High School in 1988. He was a friend to anyone he met in life, and he maintained lifelong friendships with innumerable classmates over the decades. In 1985, he began working at A-1 Van Leasing, Inc. which was founded by his father, Edwin Potts with just two rental vans. He and his grade school sweetheart, Michelle brought two beautiful children into this world, Raquelle and Lawrence, who he now leaves as his legacy. After his father passed away in 2006, Larry worked to honor Ed as the new owner/operator by growing the family business to become the largest fleet of passenger vans in the southwest. He is also survived by his mother Carolyn, his stepfather Rick, his siblings, three cherished labradors, and countless other devoted family members and friends. The list of people whose lives he touched is limitless.
Bear was an infinitely passionate, loyal San Francisco 49ers fan. He greatly admired Joe Montana and proudly displayed a lifesize cardboard cut-out of the famed quarterback in his sports loft where he held many Superbowl parties. Some of his favorite pastimes include camping, riding all-terrain vehicles far away from bustling city life, traveling, and listening to Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam as loud as he possibly could. Larry also was a proud member of the NRA, and an experienced long-distance driver. His sense of humor was unmatched and sharper than a blade. His refined skills as a salesman can be summarized by a line from one of his all-time favorite movies, “Tommy Boy”: Larry “could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves.” Above all, he was the most generous, loving man whose brilliant mind and open heart could never be replicated in our lifetimes.
His viewing will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at Dream City Church from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and his service will be from approximately 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the same cemetery as his father at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, at approximately 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Arizona Humane Society in Larry’s name to celebrate his unending love for animals.
