

went to be with His Lord peacefully in a Hospice Care center in Phoenix on November 14, 2011. Leon spent the last few days of his life surrounded by his family who dearly loved him. Leon was born August 27, 1924 in Conditt Holler, Stone County, Arkansas to Felix and Lucy Conditt. Leon grew up for most of his life in western Oklahoma. He had one sibling, Betty (McGrath), who passed away in 1990. Leon served in the Army overseas in India from 1943 through 1945. In 1947 he met Mary Koemptgen in Phoenix. They were married on April 17, 1948. Leon worked as a draftsman for Salt River Project for nearly 36 years, and retired in 1986. His life loves outside of his wife and family were photography, hiking and woodworking. Leon logged hundreds of miles hiked in the Grand Canyon, as well as climbs in the High Sierra Mountains and Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Leon and Mary served faithfully in the Catholic church, and contributed numerous hours of service and donations to local charities, such as St. Vincent de Paul and Andre House. After 63 years of marriage, Leon leaves behind his wife Mary, their twelve children Daniel, Mary, Kathleen, Barbara, Kenneth, Patrick, Theresa, Joan, Thomas, Anne, Joseph and Michael, 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Leon was beloved by many, and his life and legacy will continue to touch those he so greatly influenced. Visitation will be Wednesday November 16th from 6:00-8:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd. A Funeral Mass celebration of his life will be Thursday November 17th at 10:00am at Sts. Simon & Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave. Burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley , 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
