Limbania Melo, aged 94, died peacefully on December 5, 2014 at home in Phoenix, Arizona after struggling with cancer since 1992. Limbania was born on August 2, 1920, in Tolima, Colombia, the daughter of Pedro Antonio Lopez and Hermilda Giraldo.
Limbania loved her family and friends. She was very religious, she prayed and blessed everyone. Loved to give hugs and kisses even to strangers.
Limbania loved to sing, dance and tell jokes. She attended the Adult Day Care Program at John C. Lincoln North Mountain two days a week for the past eight years where she enjoyed all the different activities they have to offer, especially painting ceramics.
In addition to raising her four children on her own, she was also a seamstress by trade. She had her own business in Bogota, Colombia. In 1973 she moved to New York where she work in the garment district for famous designers and was a perfectionist. In 2005 she moved to Anthem, Arizona and loved it here.
Limbania is survived by her sister, Celmira Lopez de Pachon; sons, Jorge L. Melo of Cali, Colombia; Heriberto Melo and wife Hilda Melo of Bogota, Colombia; daughters Helda M. Dominguez and husband Virgilio Dominguez of Flushing, New York; Alba Consuelo Williams and husband Robert C. Williams, Jr. who she lived with for the last 22 years; five grandchildren, Ana, Jorge, Ingrid, Kenneth and Jaclyn; six great grandchildren, Ulysses, Matthew, Daniel, Veronica, Athena and Mihales; ten nieces, nine nephews and a number of other relatives and close friends. She was predeceased by her brother Reinerio Lopez, her niece Norma Zambrano and her granddaughter Liza Melo-Huerta.
There will be a funeral service at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary on Thursday, December 11, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in to Autism and/or Cancer Research.
