Linda Stewart Hall, age 82, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2026. She was born in Clearwater, Florida on March 27, 1944, to James Frank Stewart and Maude Marie (Brock) Stewart.
Linda graduated from Clearwater High School in 1962. The following year, she was married to Carter Lyle Hall in Clearwater, where they had their first son. In late 1965, they moved to Phoenix, where they had a daughter and another son. During this period, Linda volunteered as an in-room parent and librarian assistant at her children’s elementary school, and also served as a leader at the local YMCA branch.
The family moved to Orlando, Florida in 1980. Linda and Carter were active members in the churches they attended, and she provided much needed assistance and support to her mother-in-law there, and to her own mother in Clearwater, both of whom had recently lost their husbands. During this period, each of her children came of age, and ventured out to begin their own adult lives. In 1994, she and Carter moved to Carmel, Indiana, and enjoyed an extended period of semi-retirement.
Throughout her life, Linda engaged in a hybrid role as homemaker for her family, punctuated with volunteer activities and employment in various capacities. Prior to fully retiring in 2014, Linda worked at Joy’s House, an adult daycare center in Indianapolis, Indiana. She then moved back to Phoenix to be near her family.
Linda, aka “Grammy,” was an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns, a lover of cats, and the elder matriarch for her extended family. Throughout her adult life, she had a penchant for creating scrapbooks, some covering her children’s lives, and others for various popular cultural topics. Late in life she enjoyed playing bingo at the Shadow Mountain Senior Center in Phoenix and visiting with friends there. It must also be noted that she made an outstanding meatloaf, which served as the centerpiece for several memorable family meals.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Carter, in 2006. She is survived by her sons Stewart Lyle Hall and Steven Wesley Hall, and daughter Dana Marie Minton; her grandchildren Evelyn, Skye, Madeline, and Andrew; great grandchildren Scarlett, Jack and Maia; and her nephews Andrew and Scott.
A private ceremony with family and friends will be held at the Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
