Lois Joy Young of Glendale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2013. Lois was born on January 9, 1924 in Massillon, Ohio to parents Fred and Ruth (Krider) Long. In 1944, Lois joined the United States Navy. She served her country as a Storekeeper Third Class at the U.S. Naval Barracks in the Bronx, New York and in Washington D.C. She was awarded the American Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon before being honorably discharged on May 2, 1946. Lois was a lifetime charter member of the Women in Military Service for America. In 1947, she married her husband, Cy Young. After the war, Cy and Lois began their life together in Massillon by having three children. In 1963, Cy and Lois quit their jobs, sold their house, packed up the kids and moved to the Valley of the Sun: Phoenix, Arizona. Upon their retirement in 1978, the moved to Sun City, Arizona. Lois and Cy were married for 65 years. During her life, Lois had many interests and was very creative. She was an artist who loved painting, crafting and stamping. She was known for her kindness and generosity towards others, and was very active in her church along with her sister, Mary Heather, in completing missions in Mexico as a lay missionary. Lois is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Cy. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jana Baron (Ed) and Leslie Reynolds (Gary); son, Dennis Young (Amy); grandchildren, Matthew Fronek, Andrew Fronek, Kimberley Thomas, Stephanie Marston, Shawna Young, Erik Young, and Taylor Young; and great-grandchildren Jade Marston and Jake Marston. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 12:00pm at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’s name to Hospice of the Valley.
