14 October 1931 - 14 January 2023
Naomi Louise Foulk Miller (Louise, or “Weez”), was born on 14 October 1931 at Jerome, Arizona. She passed through the veil peacefully in her bed on 14 January 2023 at her home of almost 60 years in Phoenix, Arizona. The oldest child of Rollie and Maybelle Foulk, she had two brothers, Larry Foulk (Marilyn) and Jack Foulk (Peggy (deceased)). She is survived by her children Amy Koren Bowler (Calvin Reed (deceased)), Rosanne Austin (Randal), Cara Marleen Abegglen (James), Paul Anton Miller (Vandy), and Alisa Danielsen, as well as 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous other foster children who needed temporary care and comfort. She is preceded in death by her parents Rollie and Maybelle, husband John B., grandson Jesse Noel Bowler, and son-in-law Calvin Reed Bowler.
She attended grade school for a time in Miami, Arizona; then the family moved to Phoenix, where she attended Creighton Elementary School, and then North High School. She then attended BYU in Provo, Utah for a time.
In 1951 she married her Eternal Companion John B. Miller in Phoenix. Johnnie had joined the United States Navy and was stationed at Camp LeJeune because of his unique skills. After Johnnie’s service to his Country, they returned for a time to Phoenix. Their first child was born while they lived there. Shortly thereafter they moved to Los Angeles, California, where Johnnie entered medical school at University of Southern California. Louise worked for an electronics company while Johnnie completed school, and she earned her P.H.T. (Putting Hubby Through) degree from USC. Later on, as Dr. Miller began his medical practice, she served as his medical practice manager, organizing patient, employee, and general office practices, all to the betterment and benefit of her family. Much of Dr. Miller’s and her family’s success is the result of Louise’s tireless work and support. She still managed to run her household and family of young children and teenagers. Anyone who knew her understood that if you needed something accomplished, whatever it was, you could count on Louise Miller to do it.
Louise also served in many capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of which she was a life-long member. Among her callings within the Church were Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, Compassionate Service Leader, and many others too numerous to mention. She spent many of her later years serving meals to missionaries, chauffeuring older folks and those without transportation to church, the grocery store, or other appointments. She never missed an opportunity to be of service to her family and friends.
Louise spent the last 28-¾ years of her life as a widow. She spent that time serving her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors, attending their various and numerous activities, whether it be sporting events or musical programs, graduations, baptisms, ordinations, performances, weddings, and more. She presided over the family Christmas Eve program for many, many years, which over time grew to over 75 family members. She humbly served as the ultimate servant-leader and undisputed Matriarch of her immediate and extended family, all without need for recognition or reward.
We recognize her as the most faithful and stalwart wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and daughter of God, and we revere her exemplary life of service to us and all with whom she associated. Her mark on the Earth will stand the test of time throughout proceeding generations.
Services in celebration of Louise will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 47 East Ashland, Phoenix, AZ 85004 at 11:00 a.m. A brief visitation opportunity will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A visitation will also be held Friday, January 20, 2023, at 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E.
