Lowell William Roemer, 87, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born March 30, 1939, in Blue Island, Illinois, and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, when he was around six years old. The middle child, he grew up alongside his brother, Kenneth, and his baby sister, Karen.
Lowell built a life defined by steady dedication and pride in work well done. He spent 45 years as a truck driver for Smith Pipe and Steel, traveling throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and California. Even retirement could not quiet his work ethic; six weeks after retiring, with encouragement from his wife, he took a position that became 21 years with Penske—years that reflected the same reliability and commitment he brought to every responsibility.
Beyond his work, Lowell was known as a loving husband, a caring father, and a man who dearly loved his dogs. He carried himself with a quiet strength and a sincere concern for others, and he lived by a standard he stated plainly and followed faithfully: “If you’re going to do a job, do it right, or don’t do it at all.”
Lowell’s enthusiasm for drag racing was one of the great joys of his life. He owned a yellow dragster called The Scramber, marked with the number 111, and he took deep pride in being inducted into the Arizona dragster hall of fame. He also gave his time to young people as the cubmaster of Pack 407 in the 1980s, offering steady guidance and dependable leadership.
A man of enduring faith and commitment, Lowell was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for more than 40 years.
Lowell is survived by his beloved wife, Gail; his sons, Mark (Bev), John, Matt (Matt), and his grandson Jacob.
A service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 7102 N 58th Dr, Glendale, AZ 85301. Reception to follow.
